Volunteering at Highfields Primary School

Thank you for expressing an interest in volunteering at Highfields Primary School. There are different aspects of the school day that you may wish to volunteer for including:

• Classroom support
• Listening to children read
• Working with small groups of children
• Lunchtime supervision
• Accompanying school visits

Some volunteers want to get experience prior to applying for a teaching course and others might want a contrast to their normal work. Whatever the reason we want to ensure that we place you where there will be most benefit.

Before you can work in a school, you need to have a police background check. It is a standard procedure – carried out by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks in England and Wales and by Disclosure Scotland in Scotland. You will be asked to fill out a straightforward form which is sent off for processing – the check takes 4-6 weeks.
